EREMA is supporting a process developed by Cadel Deinking from Spain that is capable of removing printed ink from plastics that are ready for being recycled. During an Open House in Spain on November 6-8th an INTAREMA 1108 TE will reprocess the deinked material into quality pellets.
Cadel Deinking has developed a unique process that removes printed ink from the surface of plastic packaging materials such as film. By removing the ink prior to reprocessing the to-be-recycled film, the resulting pellets can achieve a higher value. Processors of the recycled material can replace virgin resins in film structures at a certain amount using pellets with the same color as used in the original virgin production of the film. Another option is to produce new products and the recycled pellets allow for flexibility regarding coloring that is limited when the color isn’t removed.
Typically a recycled film without ink removed results in a pellet where the color is dependent on the color pigments of the ink. It often ends up as a grayish colored pellet.
Cleaning chemicals, that are neither solvents nor environmentally hazardous materials, are used in the process. The associated water treatment system works in a closed loop, recovering the chemical agents that remove the ink.
The process can be applied to a wide variety of plastic materials and inks such as PE, PP, PET, water-based, solvent-based, UV and Electro beam inks. The process can be applied to post consumer materials or as part of in-house recovery of production scrap. EREMA’s technology and products efficiently enhance Cadel‘s Denking process to produce a secondary raw material ready to use.
You can register to attend the event here.
On the 6th, 7th and 8th of November 2018, you can visit the company’s installations in Alicante-Spain.
Companies will have the opportunity to validate the innovative technology of CADEL after the 3 day event, where a 450kg/h plant will be running with heavily printed LDPE and see how a circular economy can be implemented in automatic packaging.
