Beautiful looking consumer goods with a long life span and high quality can be made from 100% recycled single use plastic materials. Case in point the fabric of the travel backpack from 8-Hz is made from about 23 PET water bottles.
Using plastic material from single use packaging for a product that can last years is a sensible material stream management strategy.
While we can argue that avoiding single use plastics is the preferred step, reality is that we have a huge stream of these materials at this point in time in circulation and finding useful new products to be made from such, beats landfill or ending up in the ocean.
PET is an excellent material that can be used over and over again. There is no performance downside for using fibers made from an old water bottle vs. using virgin materials. On top of this, using recycled PET requires about 6x less energy compared to making and using virgin PET.
